Dr. Funicello earned his Doctorate of Chiropractic (DC) degree at Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Missouri, in 2003. While studying to become a Doctor of Chiropractic he was simultaneously studying for his Masters degree in Sports Health Science with an emphasis in Sports Injury Management. In addition to earning his Masters degree he also attained the title of Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). The CSCS certification is a high standing attainment in the health and fitness fields that requires extensive knowledge into the proper biomechanics of the human frame as it pertains to strength training, cardiovascular endurance and fitness assessment. While practicing in Arizona 2004-2007, he also served as the Strength & Conditioning coach and Assistant Sensei (instructor) for the NAU Judo Team/Club.
Chiropractic techniques used by Dr. Funicello include: Diversified, Thompson and Flexion/Distraction. In conjunction with Chiropractic he uses soft tissue techniques that include, but are not limited to, MyoFascial Release, Post Isometric Relaxation (PIR), Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), Trigger Point Therapy, Active Release, Cross friction therapy, Carpal Tunnel Release procedures, Neural Flossing and more. Some conditions will require rehabilitation which is done on site. In addition to treatment, Dr. Funicello will, in most cases, give you specific exercises and stretches specific to your condition to do from home, which is crucial in maximizing results.
